The launch of the All-Ukrainian Participatory Budget was officially announced on 17 September 2019. From now on, activists or local governments can propose projects and identify the highest priority projects through nationwide electronic voting.
“The all-Ukrainian Participatory Budget promotes cooperation between citizens and the local and central authorities,” says Viktor Gurskyi, executive director at SocialBoost.
“Over the last three years, over 4.7 million people have joined the Participatory Budget online. Today we have a chance to introduce the Participatory Budget at the national level and thus continue to promote innovative tools and digitization in Ukraine.”
According Oksana Kosenko, Civil Society Officer at UNDP Ukraine, the engagement of citizens in policy- and decision-making processes is one of the key components of the sustainable development of cities, communities and the whole country.
“The implementation of the All-Ukrainian Participatory Budget can be seen as a logical step in the democratic development of Ukraine, which will allow to involve citizens in the distribution of budget funds at the national level,” Kosenko says. “That is why UNDP supports the implementation of this initiative.”
The initiative "Pilot implementation of the All-Ukrainian Participatory Budget in three regions of Ukraine" is being implemented by SocialBoost with the support of UNDP.
