UNDP initiates training sessions for NACP employees

Kyiv, 2 July 2016 - National Agency on Corruption Prevention held an Introductory training session for their employees, launched with the support of the UN Development Programme in Ukraine.

IMG 012This was the first occasion that all NACP fellow-workers gathered outside of office walls in a hotel complex, located in Pushcha-Vodytsia, a cosy suburb of Kyiv. They attended talks by NACP management, NABU detectives, civil society experts, and representatives of international organisations. The event aimed to inform about the newly established Agency, its mission, and operational priorities.

Yurii Kardashevskyi, Head of the Detectives Unit on Detection of Unlawful Benefit and Unjust Enrichment of the NABU Information Processing and Analysis Department, stated that his Agency is eagerly anticipating the E-Asset Declarations launch. Meanwhile, NACP member Ruslan Radetskyi and UNDP experts Ivan Presniakov and Sofiya Kovach presented the E-Asset Declaration system, the launch of which is considered to be one of the NACP priorities. The executive director of Transparency International Yaroslav Yurchyshyn shared his vision on cooperation between NACP and civil society and recommended, in a case of problematic situations, to remain transparent and appeal to the community as a source of external control.

IMG 004NACP Head Nataliia Korchak noted in her speech:

"I would like to thank all our employees who bravely gave up their former workplaces and undertook a challenging task of starting up a brand-new institution. Everyone here is an ardent enthusiast. Lately, Ukrainians and international organisations have been setting their hopes on the NACP as a soon-to-be key institution on vanquishing corruption. Being merely a preventive body, we are still granted significant authority. It is up to us how we exercise this authority."

Viktor Chumak, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada's Committee on Preventing and Combatting Corruption, one of the authors of the anti-corruption laws, said:

"We are living through some turbulent times when our country is undergoing a change. Thus, we have no choice but to work hard. I would like to wish NACP to be always open for community-based control. You are tasked to revive the Ukrainians' confidence in transparent activities of politicians and officials."

Alongside with the expert component, the training had an element of adjusting team cooperation between fellow-workers.

Enhanced Public Sector Transparency and Integrity Programme of the United Nations Development Programme will continue to support NACP in developing the training programme for employees.
