The draft programme has been developed with active participation of the civil society representatives, in cooperation with the Department for information and communication with public of the Dnipropetrovsk regional state administration and the members of Dnipropetrovsk oblast council.

Proposals collected from civic activists during the Strategic Session held on the 26th of August 2016 became a foundation for the programme.

Holding a Strategic Session allowed engaging 130 activists from 73 civil society institutions and 10 representatives of the local executive authorities and local self-government bodies. The Strategic Session resulted in:

- Specifying the strategic directions and tasks of the National Strategy of supporting the civil society development in Ukraine for 2016-2020 for Dnipropetrovsk region
- Defining specific tasks and activities for forming the implementation plan of the regional strategy.
- Laying foundation for elaborating the concept of the regional strategy of supporting the civil society development in Dnipropetrovsk region.

The total budget of the programme for 4 years is 11 mln. 243 thou. UAH (including 7 mln. 868 thou. UAH from regional budget and 3 mln. 375 thou. UAH from other sources).

Approval of the programme by Dnipropetrovsk oblast council became the first in Ukraine real example of operationalization of the National Strategy of supporting the civil society development in Ukraine for 2016-2020 at the subnational level. The above mentioned National Strategy has been approved by the President's Decree #68/2016 dated 26 February 2016 "On Supporting the Civil Society Development in Ukraine".

The project "Implementation of the National Strategy of Civil Society Development of Ukraine in Dnipropetrovsk Region" has been initiated by the "Tamarisk" Centre and implemented in partnership with the leading CSOs of the region under UNDP support in the framework of the project "Democratisation, Human Rights and Civil Society Development".
