Human rights monitoring training for civil society representatives in Ukraine

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) is pleased to offer four separate human rights monitoring workshops to civil society representatives in Ukraine. The workshops will take place in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Lviv.

 
The training workshops will last five days and are offered free of charge to selected participants (including travel and accommodation expenses).
 
The objective of the training sessions is to reinforce individuals' as well as organizations' capacity in monitoring, reporting and following-up on human rights violations. In this context, the core skills the training will seek to enhance are:
    - Ability to apply core principles of human rights monitoring;
    - Ability to gather information including capacity to interview a range of persons including victims and/or witnesses of violent incidents;
    - Capacity to accurately and effectively analyse, report and take action on human rights violations;
    - Ability to cope with safety and security challenges during human rights monitoring work.
    - Networking with existing international mechanisms such as the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine and OHCHR
 
Methodology:
The training is based on interactive learning methods and requires a high level of active participation. Therefore, the size of the training groups will be limited to 20 persons.
 
All sessions combine theory and practice: participants will be directly engaged in role play scenarios (i.e. interview victims/witnesses of human rights violations).
 
Language: the training will be delivered in Russian.
 
Dates and venue: the training will take place in Kyiv 8-12 June, Kharkiv 22-26 June, Odessa 6–10 July and Lviv 20 – 24 July. Please clearly indicate your city of interest in the attached questionnaire form.
 
Criteria for selection:
Staff and volunteers from civil society organizations who are or will be engaged in human rights monitoring are encouraged to apply, in particular those who have not completed a human rights monitoring training in the past or in the last 5 years. Applicants are required:
    - To demonstrate an interest in human rights work;
    - To indicate the relevance of the training for their future human rights activities.
