Round table on destroyed civilian housing and creation of the state register

40 representatives of state bodies and civil society organizations discussed the mechanism for assessing the destroyed civilian housing and creation of the state register at the round table, organized by DONBAS SOS and Ombudsman Ukraine.

“It is high time to develop methodology and mechanism for assessing the damaged property so that the human rights of conflict-affected population would be upheld and protected in all the state policies. The state should be ready to resolve problems as well as develop durable solutions, leaving no one behind”, - stressed Blerta Cela.

There are over 50,000 civilian homes on both sides of the contact line damaged during the hostilities and homes of some 40,000 families, living on both sides of the contact line, are reportedly in urgent need of repairs according to the latest OHCHR report.

According to the UNDP-supported 2018 national survey on how the rights of IDPs are being observed in Ukraine, only 7% of IPDs appealed to the court or other government agencies to exercise their property rights. Most displaced persons lack the information and legal support they need to understand and exercise their property rights.
