12 representatives of the Legal Development Network and the CSO-Hubs Network learn of the necessary methods to write a shadow report on Ukraine’s implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Training was held by the experts from Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union with UNDP support on October 1-2, 2018 in Kyiv.
"We are convinced that the preparation and submission of the shadow report on Ukraine's implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights will allow emphasizing those gaps in the human rights protection that are extremely pressing for today.
And thanks to the joint efforts of the Legal Development Network and the CSO-Hubs Network of Ukraine with UNDP support, voices of the socially vulnerable groups of the population will be heard both at the national and international levels”, stresses Yevhen Poltenko, executive director of the Legal Development Network.
"The joint shadow report will be submitted to the UN Human Rights Committee by the end of this year. 18 members of the Committee will consider the national and shadow reports. And then the Committee will provide specific recommendations to the Government of Ukraine on improving protection of the civil and political rights ", - notes Ksenia Semorkina, trainer and expert of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union.
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was ratified by Ukraine in 1973. The Covenant is an international treaty and is binding for 167 states. The UN Human Rights Committee oversees its implementation by the member-states.
