“Security is firstly an excellent preparation”, - says Macha Chichtchenkova from Front Line Defenders

On August 15, 2018 in Kyiv, 55 civic activists attended a public lecture on how to enhance their own and their NGOs security, organized by the Centre for Civil Liberties with UNDP Ukraine support.

“Security is firstly an excellent preparation. The civic activist must be ready to react instantly to face the accident: be ready psychologically, know whom to refer to, have a stress endurance”, says Macha Chichtchenkova from the international human rights organization «Front Line Defenders».

For human rights defenders, it’s necessary to build a dialogue with local authorities and journalists, explaining to them what the human rights activism is. That’s a must part of the security plan, - adds an expert.

“E-security is of a paramount importance for human rights organizations. Documentation must be secured on safe online clouds and backups must be stored on online services outside of the office. That’s part of the online security for NGOs. It’s important for organizations not to be lazy in this regard, but invest time into this”, - stresses Sasha Romantsova from the CCL.
