Monitoring results of the implementation of the National Strategy for Civil Society Development were discussed at the concluding roundtable

Kyiv, June 26, 2018 - 23 representatives from state authorities and regional CSOs discussed the existing shortcomings on the Strategy’s implementation in the specific oblasts across Ukraine, and brainstormed on how to improve the efficiency of Coordination Councils’ functioning and consolidate advocacy efforts at the roundtable.

“Rollout of the decentralization reform creates new opportunities for strengthening cooperation between state authorities and civil society. UNDP Ukraine supports the implementation of the National Strategy for civil society, as it is crucial to accelerate reforms, socio-economic development of the regions, and strengthen protection of the human rights and freedoms of citizens”, says Marcus Brand, Team Leader of Democratic Governance Team at UNDP Ukraine.

Implementation of the National Strategy for Civil Society Development in 2016-20 requires an urgent improvement – concludes the research findings, conducted by the All-Ukrainian CSO “Association for Supporting Self-Organisation of Population” with involvement of 25 regional experts.

Local authorities must improve information sharing about the Strategy’s implementation through their websites, and engage more efficiently civil society institutions into the Strategy’s realization. As for today, only 19 out of 25 regional Action Plans for 2017 match the objectives of the National Strategy.

24,3% of the allocated funding for regional programs has no direct relation to the Strategy’s tasks. The financial component of regional programs in most cases is torn off from the content and not detailed.
