Youth workers learned how to avoid discrimination and break stereotypes

How can youth workers help young people notice and prevent discrimination? Why do gender, racial and religious stereotypes affect our attitude towards others? How can young people learn to break stereotypes?

 

This week trainer Iryna Fedorovych taught youth workers from different parts of Ukraine to promote values ​​of human rights and equality among young people, to distinguish stereotypes that shape our attitude towards others, and to prevent discrimination in the youth environment.

At the training module "Tolerance and Non-Discrimination" participants learned how to identify situations when personal actions are fueled by stereotypes and biases; which methods to use and how to develop action plan on preventing discrimination; and realized why it is important to respect diversity in their communities.

40% of Ukrainians face discrimination and 60% acknowledge: discrimination is present in our society.

37% of respondents believe that there is an age discrimination, and 33% agree that people with disabilities often face discrimination according to the recent UNDP’s research “On Human Rights’’.

This module will become part of the specialized course of the "Youth Worker" program from 2018 onwards.
