The Festival of Thoughts in Lutsk is an innovative format for engaging city residents in dialogue

More than 30 speakers and more than 600 guests attended the DumkoFest Festival of Thoughts in Lutsk on 30 September 2019. A public-sector initiatives fair and a photo exhibition entitled "Civic Leaders of Volyn Oblast," created with the support of UNDP in Ukraine, also took place during the festival.

“We invited NGO leaders, civic activists, representatives of the authorities and all engaged citizens to discuss concerning issues to the community,” said Iryna Gaiduchyk, Head of NGO-Volyn Institute of Law (Волинський Інститут Права) and co-organizer of the DumkoFest Festival of Thoughts.

“What bothers the residents of our city? How can young people change the country, what are the opportunities for the community in the smartphone, how to cooperate more effectively with the public and the authorities?”

“Accessibility and inclusive design are crucial to the implementation of the key principle of the 2030 Global Agenda: leaving no one behind,” said Olena Ursu of UNDP Ukraine.

“The Festival of Thoughts was organized is an innovative format to engage residents of the city in dialogue in a comfortable environment and raise up important issues to the community development – solving social problems, waste management, youth participation, and so on,” Ursu added.

The 2019 Festival of Thoughts in Lutsk was organized by Ресурсний центр ГУРТ: Портал суспільно активних громадян in cooperation with the Volyn Institute of Law, the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine, the Office of Education, Science and Youth of the Volyn Regional State Administration, the Department of Family, Youth and Sports Volyn Branch of the Debate Federation of Ukraine, Volyn Youth Center, Lutsk Regional Branch of the Foundation for Regional Initiatives with the support of Sweden, the Black Sea Regional Cooperation Fund and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.
