Armed conflict in the East of Ukraine: the damage caused to the housing of the civilian population

The report “Armed conflict in the East of Ukraine: the damage caused to the housing of the civilian population” analyzes the scale of destruction of houses as a result of hostilities in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, possible violations of international humanitarian law that could lead to a damage or destruction of homes of civilians, the impact of mass shelling on the population of the region, especially the protection of property rights of civilians during the armed conflict. Recommendations are provided to improve the situation.

The publication is prepared by Donbas SOS NGO within the initiative “Overcoming impunity for massive human rights violations and other international crimes committed in an armed conflict” and is being implemented within UNDP Ukraine’s “Civil Society for Enhanced Democracy and Human Rights in Ukraine” project with financial support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark and the “Human Rights and Justice” programme of the International Renaissance Foundation (IRF).
